I'll Be Wearing Fine Linen and Purple

We decided a couple of weeks ago that it was time to get out of our jammies, but the hard part of getting out of my jammies is deciding what to wear.   I cannot stress to you enough how much I dread picking out clothes!  Last year I took a new position at work and had to say bye bye to wearing easy-decision- already-made-for-me scrubs and oh how I miss the ease of scrub wearing mornings.  Now the first thing that pops in my mind when the alarm goes off, just after thinking I need more sleep, is "I have no idea what I'm going to wear".

Yes, I know, I should decide what I'm wearing the night before, and sometimes I do.  But - it's just as grueling for me the night before as it is the next morning to decide, and I can't tell you how many times I've done that only to wake up the next day and not be in the mood to wear what I picked out!  Then I have go through that nasty process twice in 24 hours.  I just dread it!

Not to mention dreading having to decide what to wear to church on Sundays.....Uhhhhh.  My Uhhhhs, are starting to sound like Napoleon Dynamite.   Some of you probably don't get that movie at all, but for some reason, I do.  It is completely hilarious and pointless to me, and no it has nothing to do with the Proverbs 31 Woman, I doubt she ever wore a t-shirt that said "Vote For Pedro".  And she probably never said UHHHH. 

In this series we've gotten up to verse 21, and as I read on in the next few verses of Proverbs 31, it doesn't appear to me that the Proverbs 31 woman has trouble deciding what she's going to wear.   Let's take a look:

She makes coverings for herself;
Her clothing is fine linen and purple.
Proverbs 31:22

Ok, stop right there.  I know you just read those first two words and thought, "I can't possibly be a Proverbs 31 woman!  I can't sew!"   Rest assured, if you can't sew, I think you can still qualify because the original meaning for the word makes in this passage is a broad word and has wide application.  Some of the suggestions for the word makes are accomplish, completes, appoints, have the charge of.  What I did not see in the definition was the words sew or Singer Sewing Machine.  She was in charge of something to wear.

And she chose fine linen and purple.

Wonder why fine linen and purple?

Sisters, purple was a color that only royal or affluent people wore because of the cost of the dye for the fabric.  Everyday people didn't wear purple.

Purple symbolized wealth and royalty.

Fine linen was bleached white, and it was highly prized.

This sounds like it's going somewhere to me. 

Remember, she was a woman who feared God and He had become her Why for existing.  She was dressing as WHO. SHE. WAS.

She was royalty because she was His and because you are His, you have been washed white as snow.  Bleached white.  No stains.  Let's fast forward to Revelation:

Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready.  And it was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
Revelation 19:7-8

My goodness.  There is a wedding coming up and you picked your dress out when you picked your Savior.  It's the finest of garments.  Bright, clean. 

And if you looked at the tag it would say:

Fine Linen.

And, bride of Christ, you are marrying the King of Kings, so yes, my sweet friend, you are royalty.
