Army Wives

Did you know you were an army wife?

Yes, you.  An army wife.

And I'm right there with you.

Where is this "army" stuff coming from, you may wander?  Let's take a look at Proverbs 31:10.
An excellent wife who can find?  For her worth is far above jewels.
Proverbs 31:10
God has blessed me with an wonderful husband who loves me like Jesus.  He is so much better at loving me than I am at loving him.  An "excellent" wife is never how I would describe myself.   When it comes to being a wife of excellence, I find myself lacking in every direction I look and as my eyes have traveled across these words in the past, a sense of failure has somehow made itself welcome within me.

Failure as a wife.

Failure as a Proverbs 31 woman.

And that's exactly how the enemy wants us to feel.

Like failures.

He wants us to settle for being failures so that we are no threat to him and his schemes.

I will settle no longer for a sense of failure as a wife, because I have learned something about this verse.  It is something powerful, and no longer do I scan this verse and compare myself to my perception of another.  No longer do I consider myself less-than when I process these words.

No ma'am.

Not this Jesus girl.

I am ready for battle because I AM AN ARMY WIFE.

And I WILL FIGHT FOR MY FAMILY.

Can I get an amen from any of my sisters?

Let's read it again.

An excellent wife who can find?
I love the NASB version of this verse now, but not too long ago I didn't.  Excellence seemed so far out of reach - but only because I did not know what the word excellent meant in this context.

Excellent in this context is not a term of perfection.  It's a military term!

Yes, army wife, it's a military term.

Here are some of the other words used to define excellent in this passage
  • Army
  • Strength
  • Valor
  • Might
  • Power
  • Strong
  • Substance
  • A Force
  • Soldiers
  • War
Oh, yeah.  When it comes to my family.  I'm a force to be reckoned with.  Yes, when it comes to my home, these words do describe me and I will declare war on the enemy on behalf of the ones God has entrusted to me.

The U.S. Army is made up of soldiers of excellence and so is God's army of wives.

You are enlisted in the greatest army of all time.

And God knew what He was doing when he enlisted you.   He knew you would be a woman of excellence.   He made us this way. He knows we know how to do battle and he knows we will be brave.  He knows we will risk ourselves to save another.

You are not a failure, you are a soldier.

Yes, you are a Proverbs 31 woman.

And you are an army wife.
An Excerpt From The U.S. Army Soldier Creed:
I will never accept defeat.
I will never quit.
I will never leave a fallen comrade.......Trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills.....I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy the enemy.

We are in this together, Army Strong.

It seems everywhere I turn lately the enemy is attacking people close to me, trying to destroy families.  Will you join me in intentional prayer this week for our husbands, our children, and our homes? Would you also pray for our friends' homes, children, and husbands?

This statement from the Army Ranger Creed seems appropriate -  "I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy."

Let's lace up our combat boots and do battle this week.  As you pray, would you mind to pop in and leave a quick comment? Your comment will remind others that we will not leave them a fallen comrade in the enemy's hands.

Thank you, sweet sister, your friends out there desperately need you.

XOXO,
Amy

I salute you for offering such a clear, inspiring message to your "sisters in arms." In unity I stand with you, willing and ready to lift up those around us those around us who have been wounded in battle. We are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. Romans 8:37

Thank you Amy for being so faithful in doing God's work for helping us to understand we will not be defeated because we are God's army wife. Praying for Dads to be the spiritual leaders in the home and train their children to love and praise the one and only God.

What a wonderfully encouraging call to battle! I feel strong as of late as a soldier, though not so long ago I spent a season in the infirmary. He was so faithful to strengthen me and redeem all my pain, and I couldn't express my gratitude in one comment if I tried. I need this reminder of strength and that WE CAN do battle. He has called, equipped, and anointed us to stand by our husbands and families, and His Spirit is with us to guide and empower every strike against satan. We don't have to be afraid, only aware of his schemes. Thank you for encouragement, and the call to prayer. I will certainly continue to pray for the army wives, and that God will be glorified and praised in every victory!

Thanks, Robin, for joining with us in battle, we need all of the soldiers we can get! Like you, it wasn't too long ago that I needed others to fight on my behalf and I'm so thankful to be able to pay it forward for someone else who's wounded.
