Her Name Was Madie and She Laughed At The Rain

At first there were only sprinkles, just a few seconds passed and the sprinkles turned into hard, cold raindrops.  Scurrying, we headed for the nearest covering to shelter us from the rain.  We stood chatting under our safe place as the raindrops unified into steady shower.  We were glad to have a jacket, as the air was a tad cool now that the rain was falling.  We could see the place we were trying to get to before the rain began to fall, but we were quite content with where we were for now; surely the rain would halt in a few minutes and we could move on to where we really wanted to be, where the rest of our friends were gathered.

We could barely hear them, some were laughing, some were talking, some were singing along with the guitar and harmonica, but we could tell they were enjoying the company of one another.  There were a few others gathered in the dry place we had stowed away in, content to wait out the rain, content to avoid being pelted by the cold drops.

But there was one who wasn't.  She wasn't content to stay where we were.  She wasn't content to wait out the little storm.  She could see where she wanted to be and she was going to face the rain so she could get there.   With her long brown pig tails and little sandal clad feet, she grabbed her mommy's hand and said let's go.  She took off running.

The few that had dared go before her ran shoulders hunched, head down - cautious, self-protecting from the drops as they fell.

But not her.

She stepped out into the rain threw her head back, face to the sky and ran in the rain......

Laughing.

Her name was Madie, and she laughed at the rain.

As I watched her, comparing the joy she faced the rain with to the caution and avoidance of the rest of us, God whispered to my heart, that's what I mean about the Proverbs 31 woman.  She's not afraid of the rain or the storms, she can face them with confidence because of Me.

She is not afraid of the snow for her household,
For all her household are clothed with scarlet.

Proverbs 31:21
Yes, this portion of scripture refers to snow, not rain, but just as snow is a product of weather, so is rain.  Snow comes in storms, rain comes in storms, and storms march right into our lives.

Rain is much more common than snow, and in the area where the Proverbs 31 woman was written about, it only snows every few years.  Snow is kinda rare, out of 730 days, it may snow and stick only once or twice.

The chances that it would snow were small, and she is not afraid of what might happen, what could happen, if the snow might fall.

Why?

For all her household are clothed with scarlet.

Scarlet is a color, a deep red-purple, many call it crimson.  Being clothed in scarlet in that time was luxurious, often royalty or people of dignity wore scarlet robes.

Besides her family, someone else wore a scarlet robe.....
And they stripped Him, and put a scarlet robe on Him.
Matthew 27:28
Jesus was dressed in scarlet too, just before He gave His life for you.  His blood flowed, a crimson, scarlet red.  The sacrifice for our sin.

If you are His, my sister, you are covered in that scarlet blood, even today.

She was able to face the storm unafraid because her household was clothed in scarlet.

And you can face the storms of this life without fear if you are dressed in scarlet and you can rest much more easily when a storm comes if your entire household is dressed in scarlet.

You see, when we're wearing scarlet, we don't have to fear the storm, we can run through it to the place He calls us to with our pigtails swinging, face to the sky  - laughing.

Her name was Madie, and she laughed at the rain.

XOXO,
Amy
